Legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki's latest creation is a retelling of the classic fairytale, The Little Mermaid. With Ponyo, Miyazaki again shows why he is the king of hand-drawn animation, creating a magical world populated by enchanting characters and creatures. Not since My Neighbor Totoro has he directed a film so perfect for kids. Not to jump to conclusions or anything, but this looks like another animated feature that uses the 3D effect as a replacement for plot and character. The trailer brings back memories of Dragonheart and Sean Connery's wonderful voice. However, even though Dragonheart was a pretty simple movie in the first place, How to Train Your Dragon looks like a dumbed-down version. We'll see for sure on March 26.
