I have not read Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Thus, I will review John Hillcoat's The Road purely on its own terms. It is a bleak film, but not without hope. The setting is a post-apocalyptic America where dirty $100 bills are ignored underfoot and children are valuable only as food. Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee are "the good guys," a man and his son in search of food and shelter.
