It's easy to watch the trailers for Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant and see just another in a long line of recent kids' fantasy series which movie studios want to turn into their own Harry Potter-style cash cows. And on one hand, that's what it is--a mostly derivative first chapter in a not very interesting story that probably won't bring in enough cash to spawn any sequels.
